PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION - BM

The Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology aims at providing specific competences on the application of biotechnology to the research, design, development, monitoring and translation to clinic of biopharmaceuticals and innovative therapies.

The Master includes two specializations allowing the students to acquire specific competences in the fields of biotechnology. The common courses aim at providing the students with a solid preparation in the fields of pathology and diagnostics, of genetics and applied genomics, of the most commonly used techniques in research and biotechnological production and of thorough statistical analysis.
 
From the common courses, two separate specializations are available. The first one is called Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies, aims at providing the students with specific competences in the field of design, development, production and monitoring of biopharmaceuticals. The second specialization, called Nanobiotechnologies, aims at providing the students with competences in the field of medical applications of nanotechnologies and of the advanced techniques for structural analyses.  

A coherent and adequate offer of additional courses to be selected by the students allows adapting the formation on one’s specific interests and professional targets. The courses are held during the first year and the first semester of the second year, while the second semester of the second year is dedicated to experimental activity required for the preparation of the final dissertation. The latter can be prepared within the laboratories available at the University of Trieste or in other national and international research centres or companies.
