Master of Science in Medical and Diagnostic Biotechnologies

ENROLLMENT

Academic Year 2023-2024

Admission to the Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology requires:

-    a Bachelor degree in Biology (class L-2 or L-13) obtained at the University of Trieste or in other universities;

-    other degree obtained abroad and recognized as equivalent;

Admission is also possible if the student has a degree, different from the Bachelor in Biology, as long as the student is in possession of the curricular requirements, corresponding to an adequate number of ECTS, defined by the Didactic Regulation (see below), and achieved in specific scientific-disciplinary sectors considered essential to the learning of biological disciplines in the second cycle degree course. In any case student’s personal preparation will be evaluated, following the procedures defined in the Didactic Regulations of the degree course. Students will also have to be fluent in written and oral form of at least one European language besides Italian with reference to disciplinary vocabularies; these skills will be taken from curriculum studiorum or other appropriate certification.

1. Admission to the Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology requires:

-    a degree in courses under D.M. 270/04, in Biological Sciences (class L-13) or Biotechnology (class L-2),

-    or a degree in corresponding courses as provided by D.M. 509/99,

-    other degree recognized as equivalent.

2. Graduates in possession of a three years’ degree are admitted to the Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology, provided that they have acquired globally in their curriculum at least 60 ECTS in two of the subject groups defined below:

- At least 15 ECTS in one or more of the following disciplines, defined by SSD: from CHIM/01 to CHIM/12, from MAT/01 to MAT/09, from FIS/01 to FIS/08, INF/01, MED/01, SECS/01-02, AGR / 13;

- At least 20 ECTS in one or more of the following disciplines, defined by SSD: BIO/01, BIO/02, BIO/03, BIO/04, BIO/05, BIO/06, BIO/07, BIO/09, BIO/16, BIO/17, MED/04, AGR/12, VET/01, VET/02, VET/03;

- At least 25 ECTS in one or more of the following disciplines, defined by SSD: BIO/10, BIO/11, BIO/12, BIO/13, BIO/14, BIO/18, BIO/19, MED/03, MED/07, AGR/07, AGR/16.

The admission to the Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology of students not in possession of these curricular requirements, is subjected to an evaluation of the student’s Curriculum Studiorum, which could be completed by acquiring the necessary credits - prior to enrollment - even by individual exams.

3. Knowledge of English language, in written and oral form, corresponding to at least B1 level, is foreseen in the admission requirements and will be taken from the curriculum studiorum or other appropriate certification.

4. Notwithstanding all of the above requirements, the admission to the Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology is automatic for students who graduated with a final grade higher/equal to 99/110, considered valid to certify an appropriate individual competence.

5. For students who meet the above requirements, but with a final grade lower than 99/110, admission is subjected to the curriculum studiorum evaluation by the Didactic Commission.
The Didactic Commission can: a) evaluate positively the Academic Records and admit the student to the degree program; b) evaluate negatively the curriculum studiorum and refuse the admission; c) request an interview (even through telematic support) in order to evaluate the student's knowledge on topics related to the degree course, and consequently (on the basis of the outcome of this interview) accept or refuse the admission to the Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology. The Didactic Commission's assessment is irrevocable.

6. Students in possession of other degree obtained abroad and recognized as equivalent, are admitted to the Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology following the criteria described above, after conversion in ECTS of the credits/titles declared and related to disciplines attributable to SSD groups and after possible equivalence of final grade degree.

Explanation of the enrollment
Students that reached the minimum number of ECTS required for enrollment and have a final evaluation for the bachelor degree higher than 99/110 are directly enrolled at Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology.

Students that have not reached the minimum number of ECTS in one or more subjects groups may contact the responsible for the enrollment (idonati@units.it) with a mail entitled “ADMISSION BM Surname name” to have indications on the exams required prior to the admission.

Students that reached the minimum number of ECTS required for enrollment and have a final evaluation for the bachelor degree lower than 99/110 are requested to send their CV to the responsible for the enrollment (idonati@units.it). If required, interviews will take place in January, March and September.

The CV needs to be submitted at least 7 days prior to the date decided for the interview.

The Evaluating Panel will contact the candidate to communicate the final decision based on the evaluation of the CV and of the interview if required by the Panel in due time for the enrolment at Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology.

Only requests sent to the following e-mail (idonati@units.it) will be considered. The e-mail must be entitled “ADMISSION BM Surname name”.

The components of the Evaluating Panel cannot be held accountable in case of errors by the candidates in the self-evaluation of the SSD required for the enrollment.

Students holding a Bachelor Degree from a foreign University which is considered adequate are enrolled at the Master of Science of Medical Biotechnology following the considerations reported above and duly conversion of the final evaluation for the bachelor degree and ECTS.

To guide the candidate, an Excel file for the self-evaluation is hereafter reported.
