Internship
To be awarded the International Master’s Degree in Neuroscience, students must complete a period of practical laboratory work for at least 8 months (internship). The internship can be carried out at the University of Trieste but also at another University, research centre or company in Italy or overseas.
The internship and the writing of a final thesis are activities carried out under the guidance and responsibility of a Supervisor, lecturer or researcher from the Programme. Supervisors can also be lecturers from other Departments or Universities, temporary lecturers, on the condition that they hold a course or part of a course of the Programme in Neroscience, but only during the academic year of their appointment. If the person that directly supervises the student in his/her experimental work is not his/her Supervisor, a co-Supervisor is required. The Supervisor is the main subject responsible for training activity and will guide, advise and solve any problems presented by the student during the internship.
If the internship is carried out in a research centre or company, training activity is regulated by law (Min Decree 25 March 1998 no 142) and an agreement will be stipulated between the university (via the Department that the Programme in Neuroscience belongs to) and the hosting research centre/company that protects the student from any accidents or third party liability. Therefore, if the student wishes to carry out his internship at a research centre or company that does not yet have an agreement with the University of Trieste, the procedure required to stipulate the agreement must be set up.
Below are some guidelines for submitting an application for internship.
1. Fill out the INTERNSHIP APPLICATION FORM at least one-two months before commencing activity.
2. Deliver or submit a copy of the INTERNSHIP APPLICATION FORM (via the Academic Office: didattica.dsv@units.it) to the Programme Commission for approval and keep the original until the end of the internship.
3. Check that the training project has been approved by the Programme Commission by consulting the minutes of the Council of the Programme in Neuroscience, that have been published and diffused.
