Master of Science in Functional Genomics

Enrollment

Academic Year 2023-2024

Admission to the Master of Science in Functional Genomics requires specific curricular requirements and adequate preparation. The enrollment procedure may vary accordingly (see below).

Curricular requirements:

1. Admission to the Master of Science in Functional Genomics requires either: i) a Bachelor degree in Biology (class L-13) or Biotechnology (class L-2) obtained at the University of Trieste or in other universities, or ii) a Bachelor degree in corresponding courses as provided by D.M. 509/99, or iii) other degree recognized as equivalent;

2. Admission is also possible if the student has a degree, different from the Bachelor in Biology, as long as the student is in possession of curricular requirements corresponding to an adequate number of CFU, defined by the Didactic Regulation, in the subject groups detailed below:

- At least 15 credits in one or more of the following disciplines, defined by SSD: from CHIM/01 to CHIM/12, from MAT/01 to MAT/09, from FIS/01 to FIS/08, INF/01, MED/01, SECS/01-02, AGR / 13;

- At least 20 credits in one or more of the following disciplines, defined by SSD: BIO/01, BIO/02, BIO/03, BIO/04, BIO/05, BIO/06, BIO/07, BIO/09, BIO/16, BIO/17, MED/04, AGR/12, VET/01, VET/02, VET/03;

- At least 25 credits in one or more of the following disciplines, defined by SSD: BIO/10, BIO/11, BIO/12, BIO/13, BIO/14, BIO/18, BIO/19, MED/03, MED/07, AGR/07, AGR/16.

3. In the case of possession of other degree obtained abroad and recognized as equivalent, the curriculum studiorum of the candidate is evaluated in the manner described above, after conversion in CFU of the credits/titles declared and related to disciplines attributable to SSD groups (as described in the table) and possible equivalence of final grade degree.

Student’s preparation:

  1. Notwithstanding all of the above requirements, the admission to the Master of Science in Functional Genomics is automatic for students who graduated with a higher/equal final grade of 99/110, considered valid to certify an appropriate individual competence.
    For students who meet the above requirements, but graduated with a final grade lower than 99/110, admission is subjected to evaluation of the curriculum studiorum by the evaluation Commission (see below).
  2. Knowledge of English language, in written and oral form, corresponding to at least B2 level, is foreseen in the admission requirements and will be taken from the curriculum studiorum or other appropriate certification.

Verification of the candidate’s requirements and preparation for enrollment:

Students are asked to complete an online test at: https://corsi.units.it/sm53/iscrizione: students who possess all the necessary requirements and preparation may directly proceed to enrollment.

Students who either do not meet the CFU requirements, or obtained a final grade lower than 99/110, or do not possess English B2 level, will have their Curriculum Studiorum evaluated by the evaluation Commission.

In case of missing requirements, the Commission may suggest to complete their Curriculum Studiorum by acquiring the necessary credits - prior to enrollment - even by individual exams.

As for the student’s preparation, the Commission may: a) evaluate positively the Academic Records and admit the student to the degree program; b) evaluate negatively the curriculum studiorum and refuse the admission; c) request an online interview in order to evaluate the student's knowledge on topics related to the degree course (disciplines of the 3rd group of subjects- see above), and, on the basis of the outcome of this interview, accept or refuse the admission to the Master of Science in Functional Genomics. The Commission's assessment is irrevocable.

As for the language skills, in case knowledge of English language corresponding to at least B2 level cannot be taken from the curriculum studiorum or other appropriate certification, this will be evaluated either by a dedicated online test of Trieste University, or via an online interview by the Course Evaluation Commission.

For any questions about the admission, candidates are invited to send an email with the subject: ADMISSION GF Surname Name and with their CV attached to the address: TutorGF@units.it.
